Treatment Dogs can develop cataracts over time. Dogs suffering from cataracts will often have a hard time functioning on a daily basis. The best course of action when it comes to cataracts is to seek canine cataract surgery or (alternately) various medicinal treatments.

Canine Cataract Surgery
Canine cataract surgery is a good option for dogs suffering severely from cataracts. This procedure includes removing the damaged eye lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. The best canine candidates for this type of surgery are healthy dogs without any medical problems.

It should be noted that even healthy dogs will take awhile to recover from any surgical procedure. In most cases, surgery is greatly beneficial, though this is not always the case.

Medicinal Treatment
Medicinal treatments are not as evasive as surgical procedures. Adjusting your dog's diet to include various medicinal treatments is easy to do. Most dogs will respond well to these treatments with little to no side effects. However, this form of canine cataract treatments is not as effective as surgery.
